ParkView, Hyenas & Chill Time - Our African Adventure: Part ThreeIn the third part of our South African adventure, I wanted to share more animal encounters! We ate breakfast with buck and deer, stroked a hyena, saw various big African cats, and grabbed a few days of chill time too. Keep reading…

ParkView Safari Lodge

One of our main aims for our South African trip was to stay with my incredible Godmother for a long weekend. Sadly, she died 5 days before we flew out, so we had to find alternative accommodation very quickly! After a google search of nearby places, we found ParkView. Only 2 minutes’ drive from the main entrance of Addo Elephant Park, we had no idea what it was going to be like…

As we pulled up to ParkView, we saw a camel in the grounds. Did we get lost and end up in Egypt? Nope… They have a rescue camel that looks after the goats! Yes, I did say goats! They also had buck and deer on site, and we watched them play every morning while we ate breakfast. This venue was gorgeous, our room was epic, the view magical, and Brenda our host was awesome!

Daniell Cheetah Project

Next, we visited the amazing Daniell Cheetah Project. Founded in 2001, this cheetah conservation project is focused on re-establishing pure gene lines and educating the public. Best known for their fast speed, cheetahs are beautiful cats and are sadly now a critically endangered species.

Thought to be fewer than 7,000 left in the world, there are various threats to cheetah populations. These include habitat loss, human conflict, high cub mortality rates and genetic abnormalities. We saw cheetahs, meercats, servals, African wild cats, two lions called Chuck and Norris, and hyenas!!!

If you’ve been following this blog series, then you’ll know that I LOVE hyenas! These animals have an unfair bad reputation. I have always wanted to get up close to one and that bucket-list moment finally happened! The two hyenas at Daniell Cheetah Project were called Bone and Marrow. Too soft to go back into the wild, I got to stroke Marrow and he loved it!

Chill Time

As you can imagine, it was pretty hard to find time to relax on this holiday! Another main reason for our trip was to see my Grandad, who we also sadly lost during that time. We spent a lot of time driving backwards and forwards to visit him every day before he passed.

But we did find time to enjoy the glorious pool, tasty food and great company at ParkView. In fact, we loved it so much there we cancelled our other hotel, so we could stay an extra three nights! And we are going back next January to stay at ParkView for our entire holiday.

In the last part of our African adventure, I’ll be sharing stories about our coastal antics in Cape Town and the surrounding area. And remember, whether you want to talk business or to hear more about our adventures, just give us a call!
